Working at Key Energy Services

A safe work environment. Comprehensive training programs. Outstanding benefits. Opportunities for advancement. These are just a few of the many reasons why we think Key Energy Services is a great place to work!

But, don’t just take our word for it. Read about some of our employees – how they got their start with the company, how they’ve moved up the ranks and why they think Key Energy Services is the right career choice!

Richard

Richard
Rig Supervisor

Richard remembers when he first started in the oil patch. That was more than 40 years ago, and he had been working as a bartender in Alice, Texas. But he wanted a better opportunity, so he approached a friend who owned Mohawk Well Service and asked him for a job.

He was hired as a floorhand on one of Mohawk’s rigs. Then when Richard’s friend started his own company, Pride, in 1965, Richard went to work there. Eventually Pride was bought by Dawson; Dawson was acquired by Key.

Through all these ownership changes, Richard continued to work hard and follow the company’s rules and procedures -- and it paid off. He moved up to derrickhand, then to rig operator, and eventually to his current position, rig supervisor.

Richard is proud of his progress. As he explains, “This is the biggest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

Stacey

Stacey
District Manager

After he left the Navy, Stacey worked in construction for awhile, but he knew that wasn’t how he wanted to spend his career. Then a friend suggested that he give the well services business a try.

So, Stacey joined WellTech as a rig floorhand. He worked his way up to derrickhand, then earned a promotion to field safety representative.

A year in Key Energy Services’ Rising Star leadership development program enabled Bugg to learn more about the operations side of the business. “I made a lot of contacts I still use today,” he remembers.

Stacey’s next promotion made him manager of the Mt. Pleasant, Mich., yard. As his career progressed, he became a field safety representative in Kilgore, Texas, then was promoted to district manager of the Bossier, La., rig yard. Now he oversees five workover rigs, three swab units and two haul trucks.

“Within a short time, I was able to move up from working on a rig into safety and management,” he says. “If you have high goals or aspirations and the right work ethic and attitude, Key Energy Services can help move you up the ranks.”

Ann

Ann
Projects Manager, Division Clerical Controller

Ask Ann to describe herself, and she’ll say she’s “dedicated, reliable, open and willing to learn and try new things.” If you talk to her at length, you’ll find she’s that and more: intelligent, capable, articulate, excited about her job and an asset to Key.

Ann is the projects manager and clerical coordinator for the Mid-Continent Division – quite a step up from the job she held when she started with WellTech just months before it merged with Key. She was quickly promoted to accounts receivable contracts manager. When these functions were transferred to Key’s headquarters, she accepted her current assignment.

“Now I do anything and everything,” Ann explains. In addition to supervising 25 clerical personnel, she handles a myriad of projects. When the division built its new office, for example, she coordinated with the contractor, hiring people and overseeing the design and construction.

Ann credits company-sponsored training courses for helping her develop as a supervisor. They improved her ability to communicate with employees and peers and gave her the skills she needs to plan and execute strategy – attributes, she says, that have helped her climb the career ladder at Key.
